Land Rover’s crossover SUV, the Range Rover Velar, will undergo a full model change and be released around 2025.

Land Rover has set a goal of transforming itself into a “fully automated, modern luxury car manufacturer by 2030,” and plans to offer EVs for all Jaguar and Land Rover models by 2032. Eight years after its launch in 2017, the first-generation Velar has been fully redesigned into the second generation, and will finally be converted into a BEV (battery electric vehicle).

Land Rover is currently working on converting its existing lineup to BEVs, and the first of these, the production prototype of the Range Rover Velar EV, has been captured on camera for the first time, with spy shots also being released.

The Range Rover Velar is undergoing a major transformation as it rides the wave of electrification. More and more information is expected to be released in the future.

About the new Range Rover Velar

The new Velar will be an all-electric vehicle built on Jaguar Land Rover’s Electric Modular Architecture (EMA), and will likely share its platform with the upcoming EV version of the Discovery Sport, which has also been announced as being built at the company’s Halewood plant.

The new Velar will undergo a major evolution not only in terms of electrification but also in terms of design. It is said that the transformation will be even greater than that of the Range Rover Electric, which is currently under development.

A prototype photographed recently shows a sportier design. It has a front face with swept-back headlights and a mesh screen, a streamlined body, and a refined roofline, making it a major evolution from the previous model. The rear design has also been revamped, and the position of the license plate has been changed, giving it a fresh impression.

We can’t wait for the arrival of the Velar, reborn with a sporty look!

The next-generation EV will be positioned to compete with the Porsche Macan EV , and is expected to be an SUV that prioritizes on-road performance compared to the Range Rover and the like.

About Jaguar Land Rover’s Electrified Modular Architecture

The production Velar electric will be based on Jaguar Land Rover’s Electrified Modular Architecture (EMA), which is at the heart of the company’s electrification strategy. The platform will be the first new electric Land Rover model built at the Halewood plant in the UK, and will also be used to power the Range Rover Evoque and Land Rover Discovery Sport electric vehicles.

Jaguar Land Rover has yet to release official specifications, but the Velar EV is likely to use 800V architecture, which will allow for faster charging and a higher-output motor, helping to extend the vehicle’s range. It is also expected to retain and further evolve Land Rover’s tradition of towing capability, fording ability and off-road technology.

Like other premium electric SUVs, the Velar EV will combine high performance and comfort, positioning itself as a leader in the luxury electric SUV market.

The name “Velar” actually comes from the code name used during the development of the first-generation Range Rover. It was named after the Latin “velare” meaning “to cover,” implying that it was a “veiled car.”

Developed as a mid-size SUV positioned between the Evoque and Range Rover Sport, the Velar shares architecture with Jaguar models and is lightweight thanks to its extensive use of aluminum.

In 2018, its beautiful design was recognized and it was honored to win the World Car Design of the Year 2018 award.
