Mazda is exhibiting at Japan Mobility Showbiz Week 2024, which is being held at Makuhari Messe from October 15 to 18, 2024, to promote its efforts in next-generation biodiesel fuel. The highlight of the event is the CX-80 Biofuel vehicle, which was unveiled for the first time in the joint exhibition corner.

Demonstration experiments are also being conducted on the CX-80 diesel engine vehicle, which will be released on October 10, 2024, to enable it to be compatible with this next-generation biofuel.

The venue also features a showcase that clearly visualizes the production process of next-generation biofuel. The color of the water changes at each stage from sowing to harvesting, allowing visitors to see at a glance how CO2 is absorbed and how fats and oils accumulate. Because this fuel absorbs CO2 during the production process, it has the potential to contribute to the realization of a carbon-neutral society.

Development of next-generation biofuels

Furthermore, Mazda has set up a small-scale plant within its Hiroshima Factory to develop next-generation biofuels. In the future, it is expected that domestic fuel production will become possible, which will bring about various benefits, such as reducing dependence on imported oil, stabilizing prices, and making effective use of abandoned farmland.

What’s interesting is that it was discovered during the research and development process that it was possible to extract the same components as blue fish. This opens up new possibilities, not only for use as fuel, but also for the development of materials that are beneficial for health.

Mazda’s efforts with next-generation biodiesel fuel give us a sense of hope for the future, aiming to solve environmental problems while revitalizing the economy.
