2025 Toyota Sienna: If you leave your child in the back seat, it will call your cell phone

The 2025 Toyota Sienna will be the first Toyota vehicle to feature Advanced Rear Seat Reminder, a new technology that significantly reduces the risk of leaving children in the back seat. Every year, it is reported that children and pets left in cars lose their lives in accidents caused by high and low temperatures, and Toyota is actively addressing this issue.

The previous model also had a system that changed the back seat confirmation, but the Sienna’s new system is more sophisticated and adds more powerful notification features to the driver. When the radar-based technology detects someone in the back seat, it first turns off the hazard lights and chimes the door lock nine times. If you ignore this for 90 seconds, the horn will sound, and if the door is still not open after four minutes, you’ll receive a text notification on Toyota’s smartphone app.

Also, if the car is unlocked and blocked by the back seat, there is a 10-minute grace period, and the horn will not sound, but a text message will be sent first. If there is no text message, the system will call. At the heart of this system is a 60GHz radar scanner that constantly monitors the movements of the second and third rows to ensure the safety of occupants.

Every Sienna, including the base LE, comes standard with Advanced Rear Seat Reminder technology and a 10-year Safety Connect subscription to use the feature. This innovative feature gives drivers peace of mind and helps keep their loved ones safe at all times.

Hybrid Powertrain

The 2025 Sienna is equipped with Toyota’s next-generation hybrid system, which significantly improves fuel economy. The front-wheel drive (FWD) model is estimated to get 36 MPG, and the all-wheel drive (AWD) model is estimated to get 35 MPG, which is an impressive figure for a minivan. Only the hybrid model is available, making it an option that combines ecology and economy, and is suitable for a wide range of uses, from daily commuting to long-distance driving.

This system reflects Toyota’s 20+ years of hybrid technology evolution and represents Toyota’s mission to achieve sustainable mobility. It offers a powerful and comfortable driving experience while being environmentally friendly. The Sienna is also perfect for family transportation and outdoor activities.

Advanced safety equipment provides peace of mind

The Toyota Sienna comes standard with advanced safety features, and all grades feature Toyota Safety Sense (TSS 2.0), which includes a wide range of features to protect the driver and passengers in a variety of situations, such as the Pre-Crash Safety System (PCS) w/PD with pedestrian detection and automatic braking, and the Blind Spot Monitor with Rear Cross Emergency Alert (BSM w/RCTA).

The 2025 Sienna also comes standard with up to 10 airbags, including knee airbags for the driver and passenger, side airbags and curtain side airbags for up to the third row, from all directions. In addition, all models are equipped with an Electric Parking Brake (EPB) and an Advanced Rear Seat Reminder (ARSR) system to further enhance everyday safety.

A word from the editorial department

The 2025 Toyota Sienna’s Advanced Rear Seat Reminder is a must-have technology for family cars, designed to prevent tragic accidents caused by children being left behind in the car. Its highly accurate radar detection and rapid notification via smartphone integration provide a sense of security far beyond that of conventional systems.

I am also impressed by Toyota’s proactive adoption of safety technologies that are constantly evolving. The Sienna is becoming more and more attractive as a cutting-edge family car, not only for its spaciousness and excellent fuel efficiency, but also for its safety.

This “Advanced Rear Seat Reminder” will not be introduced in the Sienna in Japan, but I would like to see it introduced in models such as the Noah, Voxy, Alphard, and Vellfire that are sold in Japan.
